HB387 Summary

• Terminates use of Common Core State Standards, Alabama College and Career Ready Standards, and any variants of these standards in K-12 public schools.

• Requires the State Board of Education to replace current standards with pre-Common Core Math and English Language Arts courses of study that were in place before May 2011 (Math) and May 2012 (English Language Arts), to be renamed Alabama Course of Study Standards.

• Mandates implementation of the Alabama Course of Study Standards beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.

• Prohibits adoption or implementation of any national standards from any source, including Next Generation Science Standards, History Standards, Social Studies Standards, and Sexuality Standards.

• Prohibits education entities and state officials from joining consortiums or organizations that would cede control of Alabama public education to external entities; grants any Alabama resident standing to sue for enforcement of the act.
