HB457 Summary

• Prohibits the State Department of Education and public K-12 school officials, teachers, and school counselors from implementing or maintaining programs using American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Standards and competency indicators or variations thereof.

• Bans programs designed to direct public school students' perception of ASCA's concepts, values, attitudes, and beliefs through grade-cluster introduction and reinforcement with expectation of mastery by 12th grade.

• Prohibits the State Department of Education and school officials from coordinating with any private or public organization to implement or maintain such programs.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
