HB6 Summary

• Authorizes individuals 19 years of age or older who are not otherwise prohibited by state law to carry a pistol or firearm concealed or in a vehicle without a permit.

• Removes the legal presumption that possession of a pistol without a permit constitutes prima facie evidence of intent to commit a crime of violence.

• Repeals Sections 13A-11-50, 13A-11-52, and 13A-11-74 of the Alabama Code, which previously prohibited concealed weapon carry without a permit.

• Revises the process for handling pistols seized in connection with firearm violations, establishing procedures for district attorneys to direct return of seized pistols to owners or to file forfeiture complaints in circuit court.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
