Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society was founded in 1989 at West Chester University of Pennsylvania to recognize academic achievements of college students in access and scholar programs such as TRIO Student Support Services.

Miles College's TRIO Student Support Services chartered the Eta Mu Chapter of Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society, marking the first chapter in Alabama, with a ceremony held on April 6, 2022, at Miles College Chapel in Brown Hall.

Membership in Chi Alpha Epsilon requires a 3.0 GPA for the past two semesters, participation in access programs like TRIO Student Support Services, and full-time enrollment at a college or university.

The Eta Mu Chapter was founded by chapter advisor Kerry Donnel Brackett with support from Miles College Director of TRIO Don Anthony Mosely, staff members Brooke Yarbrough, Julius Bedford, and Brandiece Berry, and Miles College President Bobbie Knight.

The legislature of Alabama celebrates the historical significance of the Eta Mu Chapter and congratulates its 10 charter members: Delphine Backay, James Jones, Joshua Coleman, Qiana Williams, Octavia Calloway-Peters, Lasonya Clarke, Uche MgBodile, Tytianna Reese, Shontel Wyatt, and Shariah Shackelford.
