Commends late Sheffield Police Sergeant James Nicholas "Nick" Risner as a nominee for the 2022 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement.

Sergeant Risner was killed in the line of duty on October 2, 2021, at age 40 while responding to a report of a victim in the roadway and was struck by hostile gunfire during a suspect chase.

Risner served as a K-9 Officer with the Sheffield Police Department since 2012 and previously served 8 years in the United States Army Reserve.

Risner was married to Brandy for 15 years, had one daughter named Aili, and made an organ donation after his death.

The House of Representatives recognizes Sergeant Risner's exemplary service and dedication to his country, community, and fellow citizens.
