Nominates Baldwin County Deputy Sheriff William "Bill" Smith, Jr. for the 2022 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, Alabama's highest law enforcement award for extraordinary courage in the line of duty.

On June 6, 2021, Deputy Smith and Deputy Sydney Wentworth entered tumultuous Gulf of Mexico waters to rescue three distressed swimmers, with Deputy Smith successfully saving a 19-year-old before losing his own life in the rescue effort.

Deputy Smith served seven years with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Department and also worked with the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department, with prior retirement from a 30-year career with the DeKalb County Fire Department in Georgia.

The House of Representatives recognizes and honors Deputy Smith as a nominee for the 2022 Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement in recognition of his exemplary dedication and selfless service.
