Recognizes Limestone County Sheriff Deputy Jake Abernathy as a nominee for the 2022 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement.

Deputy Abernathy rescued a drowning swimmer on July 15, 2021, near the Easter Ferry Bridge in Limestone County after responding while off-duty.

Despite swift river currents causing him to lose grip on the swimmer initially, Deputy Abernathy courageously re-entered the water and, with assistance from Deputy Lucas Ferrell, brought the victim to shore.

The rescued swimmer was transported to a hospital and made a full recovery following the rescue efforts.

The House of Representatives honors Deputy Abernathy for his selfless actions and exemplary dedication to protecting fellow citizens in times of crisis.
