Records the death of Mrs. Irene M. Thomas with deep sadness and offers tribute to her life.

Mrs. Thomas graduated from Prairie View A and M College in 1943 and was married for 57 years to Dr. Winfred Thomas, Dean of the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at Alabama A and M University.

Taught school for over 30 years in Texas and Madison County, Alabama, teaching third grade at Councill Training School and fourth grade at Riverton Elementary; nominated in 1972 as one of the most Outstanding Teachers in America.

After retiring from teaching in 1977, became proficient in computer usage, master gardening, calligraphy, and playing piano and guitar while serving as a Sunday School teacher and church volunteer.

Was affiliated with numerous educational, social, and civic organizations including the Madison County Teachers Association, Alabama Education Association, Alabama Retired Teachers Association, and was a Charter Member of the Madison County Rural Senior Services.
