Recognizes Mayor Burwell Lee "Sonny" Wilbanks of Madison, Alabama, for his outstanding service to his community and the State of Alabama.

Mayor Wilbanks served as Mayor of Madison from 1969 to September 1988, and previously served in the United States Navy from 1950-1952.

During his tenure, Mayor Wilbanks oversaw infrastructure improvements including widening Hughes Road, opening a branch library, hiring the first full-time firefighters, founding the North Alabama Gas District, and successfully opposing the Huntsville annexation.

Mayor Wilbanks was instrumental in securing land and building Madison's second fire station on Hughes Road, which doubled the firefighter crew and equipment inventory.

The House of Representatives extends its highest tribute and deepest admiration to Mayor Wilbanks for his faithful and selfless service and significant, lasting improvements to the City of Madison.
