AL SB102

Authorizes the Alabama Board of Pharmacy to issue pharmacy intern/extern permits allowing qualified individuals to compound and dispense prescriptions under immediate direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist on permitted pharmacy premises.

Permits pharmacy interns who hold a professional pharmacy degree and are serving their internship, and pharmacy externs who are enrolled in an accredited pharmacy school, to work in pharmacies under pharmacist supervision.

Requires applicants to be of good moral character, U.S. citizens or legally present in the United States, and to submit a background check at applicant expense; initial application fee not to exceed $100.

Sets permit expiration on December 31 of odd-numbered years with renewal fees not exceeding $100; late renewal penalties not to exceed $50 per month.

Defines "immediate direct supervision" as at least one pharmacist being personally present and available on pharmacy premises for consultation with the intern or extern at all times.
