SB118 Summary

• Amends Section 12-17-81 of the Code of Alabama to increase the pay grade for all circuit clerks in the Unified Judicial System, including the Deputy Circuit Clerk of the Bessemer Division of the Tenth Judicial Circuit, effective January 2025.

• Circuit clerks taking office on or after January 2025 shall have their annual salary fixed at step one of pay grade 86 of the Unified Judicial System pay plan.

• Circuit clerks serving in office prior to January 2025 who are receiving pay grade 84 salary shall be transitioned to the corresponding step in pay grade 86 effective January 2025.

• Annual salary increases continue on the anniversary date (first Monday after second Tuesday in January) by one step on the pay plan until the maximum step is reached, with no diminishment of existing local supplements.

• Effective upon passage and approval by the Governor, or three months after passage if not approved.
