SB133 Summary

• Amends Section 41-14A-6 of the Alabama Code to allow SAFE Program board members to participate in meetings via telephone conference, video conference, or similar communications equipment with all participants able to hear each other simultaneously.

• Virtual participation constitutes presence in person for all purposes including establishing a quorum, deliberating, and taking official action.

• Requires all board meetings and notices comply with the Alabama Open Meetings Act (Section 36-25A-1 et seq.), except that sessions involving confidential information remain closed to the public.

• Public members must have the opportunity to simultaneously listen to or observe meetings held via virtual technology.

• Became effective immediately upon passage and Governor approval or upon becoming law.
