SB143 Summary

• Amends Section 17-7-21 of the Alabama Code to require public testing of automatic tabulating equipment prior to each election.

• County judges of probate or municipal clerks must publicly test voting equipment to ensure it accurately tabulates votes, with testing scheduled as close to election day as practicable but no more than 14 days prior.

• Public notice of the test date and location must be provided through a newspaper of general circulation or the official county or municipality website.

• The Secretary of State is directed to adopt rules implementing these public testing requirements.

• The act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
