SB154 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Section 32-9-20 to establish uniform maximum vehicle width restrictions on state highways: 102 inches for highways with traffic lanes 12 feet or wider, and 96 inches for highways with traffic lanes less than 12 feet in width, excluding mirrors and safety devices.

• Exempts vehicles hauling forest products or culvert pipe, which may carry loads up to 102 inches in width on any state highway.

• Prohibits passenger vehicles from carrying loads extending beyond the fender line.

• Retains existing height limit of 13.5 feet, length limits for various vehicle combinations ranging from 40 to 80 feet, and gross weight limits based on axle spacing and configuration.

• Became effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor on March 15, 2022.
