SB159 Summary

• Amends Section 16-50-26, Code of Alabama 1975, to allow Alabama State University Board of Trustees members to participate in meetings via telephone conference, video conference, or similar electronic communications equipment.

• Electronic participation constitutes presence in person for all purposes, but a majority of a quorum must be physically present at the noticed meeting location to conduct business or establish a quorum.

• Electronic meeting participation must comply with the Alabama Open Meetings Act, and public members must have simultaneous opportunity to listen to or observe meetings conducted electronically (except emergency meetings).

• Extends the same electronic participation provisions to the Boards of Trustees of Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University.

• Effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
