SB20 Summary

• Creates the Sergeant Nick Risner Act to amend Section 14-9-41, Code of Alabama 1975, regarding correctional incentive time eligibility.

• Prohibits persons convicted of manslaughter from receiving any correctional incentive time (good time credits).

• Maintains existing prohibitions on correctional incentive time for persons convicted of Class A felonies, life sentences, death sentences, sentences exceeding 15 years, and sex offenses involving children.

• Makes nonsubstantive technical revisions to update code language to current style, including replacing outdated terminology throughout the statute.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
