SB204 Summary

• Prohibits any person from knowingly disclosing the home address or unpublished phone number of law enforcement officers or state legislators with intent to expose them to harassment or risk of harm to life or property, or with reckless disregard of such risk.

• Defines "law enforcement officer" to include employees covered under Section 41-13-7 of the Alabama Code, plus their spouses and dependent children.

• Classifies violations as a Class C misdemeanor offense.

• Establishes civil liability for violators to pay damages to affected individuals, including liquidated damages of at least $1,000 per violation, punitive damages, reasonable attorney fees, and other equitable relief as determined by the court.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
