AL SB221

Applies to Class 6 municipalities with a mayor and five city council members elected for staggered terms as of the bill's effective date.

Allows city councils to adopt an ordinance revising election dates and terms, with city council members elected in 2022 serving five-year terms commencing November 2022, and successors serving four-year terms starting November 2027 and every four years thereafter.

Extends terms of mayor and city council members set to expire in 2024 by one year to expire in 2025, with successors elected for four-year terms commencing November 2025 and every four years thereafter.

Provisions are supplemental and do not repeal any law not in direct conflict with the act.

Act became effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
