• Allows defendants charged with offenses subject to summons and complaint procedures to post any one of the four state-approved types of bail when pleading not guilty, rather than being limited to a single type.

• Prohibits judges or magistrates from ordering cash-only bail for a defendant's initial failure to appear on a summons and complaint.

• Applies to municipalities that do not employ a full-time municipal judge, though municipalities with full-time judges may elect to apply this section through local law.

• Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
