SB268 Summary

• Prohibits individuals, organizations, and other entities (except the Secretary of State, boards of registrars, and federally designated voter registration agencies) from providing voter registration applications with any prefilled fields without voter consent.

• Prohibits individuals, organizations, and other entities (except the Secretary of State and absentee election managers) from providing absentee ballot applications with any prefilled fields without voter consent, with an exception for the return address field.

• Requires boards of registrars to refuse registration to applicants using prefilled voter registration applications and to provide written notice of refusal within 10 days stating the specific reason.

• Establishes violations of these prefilling prohibitions as Class C felonies under Alabama Code Sections 17-3-54 and 17-11-4.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
