SB295 Summary

• Amends Section 17-5-4 of the Alabama Code to require candidates to file a statement appointing a principal campaign committee within five days of becoming a candidate.

• Directs certifying officials (for statewide, county, or legislative offices) and municipal city clerks to immediately disqualify any candidate who fails to timely file the required principal campaign committee statement.

• Disqualified candidates shall not appear on the ballot for that election.

• Allows certifying officials or city clerks to grant an additional five-day extension upon a showing of good cause.

• Becomes effective August 1, 2023.
