SB32 Summary

• Grants individual Alabama Legislature members a statutory right to intervene as a matter of right in circuit court or district court actions relating to implementation, administration, construction, or application of local laws affecting their legislative district.

• Applies to local laws passed by the Legislature relating to counties or municipalities wholly or partially within the member's legislative district, or general laws pertaining to only one municipality in their district.

• Requires interventions to be made through timely motion to court in accordance with Alabama Rules of Civil Procedure and served upon parties to the action.

• Permits legal fees incurred from intervention to be paid from campaign contributions under Section 17-5-7(a)(7) of the Code of Alabama 1975.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
