SB33 Summary

• Permits nonprofit corporations organized under Alabama law (excluding those incorporated under Title 11) that provide water service to the public to be audited or examined one time by the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts following the close of their fiscal year.

• The Department of Examiners of Public Accounts may charge a reasonable fee for conducting these audits.

• Audits shall follow the same procedures established in Chapter 5A of Title 41, Code of Alabama 1975.

• Exempts public water supply systems, waterworks plants, or water distribution systems owned or operated by municipalities, counties, or entities organized under Title 11 of the Alabama Code from this audit requirement.

• The act became effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
