SB335 Summary

• Class 3 municipalities may establish a Blight Review Board by ordinance to address nuisance complaints and make recommendations to the municipal governing body regarding blighted properties.

• Board composition consists of equal members to the municipal governing body, with each governing body member appointing one board member who must be a municipality resident (or district resident if elected by districts).

• Board members serve two-year terms with a maximum of two consecutive terms; the board must meet at least monthly and conduct business by majority vote of present members.

• Board duties include receiving briefings on abandoned, boarded-up, burned, or vacant structures; providing quarterly reports; and may recommend time frames for repairs, penalties, demolition, or eminent domain exercise for nuisance properties.

• Act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
