SB39 Summary

• Amends Act 258 of the 1975 Regular Session to allow Jefferson County municipalities employing their mayor as superintendent of a municipal utility system to set an additional salary not to exceed $1,200 per month beyond the mayor's regular salary.

• Provides an alternative option allowing municipalities to adopt an ordinance or resolution exempting themselves from the $1,200 monthly cap and instead follow Section 11-43-80 of the Alabama Code regarding superintendent compensation.

• Applies to mayors serving as superintendents of municipal light and power systems, water systems, sewage systems, or gas systems, or any combination thereof.

• Excludes the City of Bessemer from the provisions of this act.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
