SB47 Summary

• Amends Section 17-7-23 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to require any approved electronic vote counting system to use paper ballots marked and inspected by voters before votes are cast and counted.

• Defines "paper ballot" as a ballot marked by the voter by hand or by a disability accessible ballot marking device.

• Requires the Alabama Electronic Voting Committee to approve only those electronic vote counting systems that are both certified by an authorized independent testing authority and require the use of verifiable paper ballots.

• Makes nonsubstantive technical revisions to update existing code language to current style and restructure subsections with lettered formatting.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon becoming law.
