AL SB60

Amends Section 17-3-2 of the Alabama Code to require the state board of appointment (Governor, Auditor, and Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries) to ensure county boards of registrars reflect the gender, race, and geographical makeup of their respective counties when making appointments.

Maintains existing requirements that registrars be three reputable and suitable individuals who are qualified electors, county residents, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and have minimum computer and map reading skills.

Continues the prohibition on registrars holding elective office during their term and requires designation of one board member as chair by the state board of appointment.

Exempts counties with populations of 600,000 or more inhabitants from these provisions, allowing existing local or general laws regarding board appointments to remain in effect.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
