AL SB63

Requires all health benefit plans to provide coverage for continuous glucose monitors for patients diagnosed with diabetes, effective October 1, 2022.

Continuous glucose monitor coverage must be subject to the same annual deductible or coinsurance as other coverage benefits within the policy.

Prohibits private third-party payors from reducing or eliminating continuous glucose monitor coverage and prevents penalization of healthcare providers who order such devices.

Applies to all health benefit plans issued or delivered in Alabama, including group insurance plans, individual policies, HMOs, PPOs, and entities providing health care services in the state.

Amends Sections 10A-20-6.16 and 27-21A-23 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to make continuous glucose monitor coverage requirements applicable to health maintenance organizations and self-insured plans.
