SB 80 Summary

• Amends the Military Family Jobs Opportunity Act to extend the deadline for occupational licensing boards to adopt military spouse reciprocal licensing rules from January 1, 2019 to January 1, 2023.

• Extends the validity period of temporary permits allowing military spouses to practice in their profession from 180 days to 360 days while their permanent license application is being processed.

• Removes exemptions for certain health occupational licensing boards (State Board of Pharmacy, Board of Dental Examiners, State Board of Chiropractic Examiners, Alabama Liquefied Petroleum Gas Board, and State Board of Medical Examiners) from the military spouse licensing requirements.

• Maintains existing eligibility criteria for military spouses, including those married to active duty/reserve military members, Department of Justice employees, and NASA employees who are relocated to Alabama by official order.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
