SB 87 Summary

• Creates the Sergeant Nick Risner Act to amend Section 14-9-41, Code of Alabama 1975, regarding correctional incentive time for prisoners.

• Makes any person who enters into a plea agreement ineligible for correctional incentive time (good time credit).

• Adds plea agreements for lesser or related offenses to the list of disqualifying circumstances for earning good time, joining existing restrictions for Class A felonies, life sentences, sentences over 15 years, and certain sex offenses.

• Makes nonsubstantive technical revisions to update code language to current style, including terminology changes from "inmate" to "prisoner."

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
