SJR8 Summary

• Congratulates the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium (MASGC) for 50 years of service to Mississippi, Alabama, the Gulf of Mexico region, and the nation since its establishment in 1972 as the nation's first bi-state Sea Grant program

• Recognizes MASGC's focus areas including Environmental Literacy and Workforce Development, Healthy Coastal Ecosystems, Resilient Communities and Economies, and Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture

• Notes MASGC member institutions include Jackson State University, Mississippi State University, University of Mississippi, University of Southern Mississippi, University of South Alabama, Auburn University, Dauphin Island Sea Lab, University of Alabama, and University of Alabama at Birmingham

• Commends MASGC for supporting university-based coastal science research, education, and extension programs that promote responsible use of ocean and coastal resources through informed decision-making

• Requests official copies of the resolution be presented to presidents of MASGC universities, the Director of the National Sea Grant College Program, and the Chair of the National Sea Grant Advisory Board
