Recognizes Mayor Burwell L. "Sonny" Wilbanks of Madison, Alabama for his outstanding service to his community and the State of Alabama.

Mayor Wilbanks served as Mayor of Madison from 1969 to September 1988; prior military service in the United States Navy from 1950-1952 and worked as an engineer at NASA in the Saturn Instrument Group.

During his tenure as mayor, Wilbanks addressed infrastructure demands, secured tax base preservation with Interstate 565 addition, opened a branch library, hired first full-time firefighters, and successfully opposed Huntsville annexation to maintain Madison's independence.

Additional accomplishments include adding a high school, widening Hughes Road, and founding the North Alabama Gas District.

Senate adopted the resolution on March 30, 2022 and House adopted on April 5, 2022.
