HB2 Summary

• Proposes a constitutional amendment to authorize the state, counties, and municipalities to grant federal award funds and other state-designated broadband funding to public or private entities for providing or expanding broadband infrastructure.

• Requires that any grants of funds by a county or municipality to a private entity must be approved at a public meeting held by the appropriate county or municipality.

• Election on the proposed amendment shall be held at the 2022 primary election in accordance with the Alabama Constitution and state election laws.

• The Code Commissioner shall number and place the amendment in the constitution based on logical sequence and subject matter, with authority to correct formatting, grammatical, and clerical errors upon ratification.
