• Authorizes licensed dentists to provide teledentistry orthodontia services in Alabama using asynchronous or synchronous technology while maintaining the same standard of care as in-person services.

• Requires patients receiving teledentistry services to complete at least one in-person visit with a licensed dentist annually and mandates initial in-person examinations including physical examination and review of diagnostic radiographs before beginning orthodontia treatment.

• Mandates that teledentistry advertisements include a conspicuous disclaimer about the importance of in-person examinations for certain services including impressions, prosthetics, appliance placement, and teeth/jaw corrections.

• Establishes Board of Dental Examiners authority to adopt rules governing teledentistry practices including transparency, informed consent, standard of care, documentation, supervision, scope of practice, and patient complaint procedures.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
