Effective October 1 following enactment, the Pickens County Judge of Probate receives an additional monthly expense allowance of $1,733 if licensed to practice law and authorized to exercise equity jurisdiction.

Beginning the next term of office after enactment, the Judge of Probate's annual compensation shall equal 72 percent of a circuit judge's annual starting initial salary under Code of Alabama 1975, Section 12-10B-1(a)(4).

The new salary structure replaces all other compensation provided by law and is paid from the county's general fund in equal installments like other county employees.

The Judge of Probate's salary does not increase if circuit judge base salaries increase by law, but remains eligible for cost of living adjustments granted to other county officers.

The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
