HB464 Summary

• Removes the list of reasons for voting by absentee ballot from the affidavit that accompanies absentee ballots in Alabama.

• Replaces the checkbox section with a single statement: "I am entitled to vote an absentee ballot for the reason specified on my absentee ballot application."

• Voters will still need to provide reasons when initially applying for an absentee ballot, but will no longer need to re-check reasons on the ballot affidavit itself.

• The affidavit continues to require voter signature, residence address, date of birth, attestations regarding voting legality, and witness or notary signatures as before.

• Effective date is the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
