Commends Miss Christine Johnson for winning the 2023 American Legion Department of Alabama Oratorical Contest held in Montgomery, Alabama on March 11, 2023.

Johnson won the $2,500 state scholarship prize by defeating competitors across two divisions, with her prepared oration titled "Defending the Constitution to Keep Our Freedoms" and assigned topic "Amendment XIV, Section 1."

Johnson progressed through county, district, and division levels before winning the state competition, and represented Alabama at the 2023 National High School Oratorical Contest Finals in Indianapolis, Indiana from April 21-23.

The competition requires contestants to deliver an 8-10 minute prepared oration on a constitutional topic, followed by a randomly drawn 3-5 minute assigned topic speech.

Johnson is a 12th grade homeschooler who prepared for the competition with guidance from multiple teachers and family support.
