Commends Miss Christine Johnson for winning the 2023 American Legion Department of Alabama Oratorical Contest on March 11, 2023, in Montgomery, Alabama.

Miss Johnson won the local Post 229 level in Madison, District 12 level, Division 1 level, and the Alabama state competition with a prepared oration titled "Defending the Constitution to Keep Our Freedoms" and assigned topic on "Amendment XIV, Section 1," earning a $2,500 scholarship.

The American Legion Oratorical Contest requires contestants under 20 years of age to deliver an 8-10 minute prepared oration on the U.S. Constitution followed by a 3-5 minute response to a drawn assigned topic, with competition progressing from post level to state to national level.

Miss Johnson, a 12th grade homeschooler, will represent Alabama at the 2023 National High School Oratorical Contest Finals in Indianapolis, Indiana, from April 21-23, where over 53 high school students compete for a top prize of $25,000.

The Alabama Legislature expresses highest commendations to Miss Johnson on her success and extends sincere best wishes for her future endeavors.
