Commends Elyse Mae Dean, a Pickens Academy senior, for being named one of Alabama Public Television's Young Heroes of Alabama for 2023.

Elyse maintains a 4.0 GPA, is ranked in the top 2 percent of Honor Seniors, and has completed 22 college credit hours at Bevill State Community College with a 4.0 college GPA.

Member of Math Team and Scholars Bowl Team; inducted into National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Pi Alpha Epsilon; serves as Secretary for Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Vice President of her senior class.

At age 11, Elyse was diagnosed with Chiari malformation with a syrinx and underwent surgery; she returned to school five days later and now participates as a varsity cheerleader, majorette, and band member despite her health challenges.

The Legislature of Alabama dedicates this resolution to Elyse Mae Dean with appreciation, admiration, and regard for her courage and determination.
