Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity for African-Americans, was founded at Cornell University on December 4, 1906, by seven founders known as the "Jewels."

The fraternity has produced over 200,000 members since 1906, with over 80,000 living college-educated members inducted into 706 college and alumni chapters across the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.

Alpha Phi Alpha has accumulated over 850,000 hours of community service, produced $2.3 million in scholarships, and registered thousands of American citizens to vote through its civic outreach initiatives.

The House of Representatives commends Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, and the Alabama District Chapters for their outstanding contributions to the nation and State of Alabama.

March 21, 2023, is recognized as Alpha Phi Alpha Day at the Alabama State Capitol, with copies of the resolution to be distributed to the Alabama District Director and the Chairperson of the Political Action Committee.
