Honors former Alabama House Representative Walter E. Penry, Jr., who passed away on March 30, 2023, after serving six terms representing the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay and South Baldwin County.

Recognizes Penry's military service as a Corporal in the U.S. Army and Master Sergeant in the Foley Army National Guard, and his 40+ years working for the Gulf, Mobile, and Ohio Railroad (later Illinois Central Railroad).

Acknowledges his community contributions including 30+ years on The University of South Alabama Foundation board, founding and leading the Belforest Water System, and serving Civitan International.

Highlights legislative accomplishments including establishing Blakeley State Park, protecting oil and gas revenue for Baldwin and Mobile Counties, protecting pro-bono medical workers with liability insurance, and earning Conservation Legislator of the Year in 1995 from the Alabama Wildlife Foundation.

Survived by his wife of 70 years Jane Mathews Penry, one daughter, three sons, and six grandchildren.
