Law enforcement agencies in Alabama may not release individuals in custody who are identified as illegal aliens until collecting a full set of fingerprints and a known DNA reference sample from the person.

Collected fingerprints must be submitted to the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency for cataloging.

Collected DNA samples must be submitted to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for analysis and entry into appropriate databases.

The act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
