AL SB69

Removes the time limit restriction for purchasing hazardous duty time credit for prior eligible service for firefighters, law enforcement officers, and correctional officers who are Tier I plan members in the Employees' Retirement System or Teachers' Retirement System.

Previously, members could only purchase prior service credit within two years of January 1, 2001 (or December 28, 2001 for Alabama Forestry Commission firefighters); this bill eliminates that deadline.

Maintains existing requirements that members must pay one percent of current or previous year's annual earnable compensation (whichever is higher) for each year of claimed credit and provide certification from each employing agency.

Applies only to Tier I plan members; Tier II plan members remain ineligible to purchase hazardous duty time credit for prior service.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
