AL SB84

Authorizes disability insurers to offer paid family leave benefits through employer-sponsored group policies or voluntary employee policies, known as the "Paid Family Leave Income Replacement Benefits Act."

Covers leave for: caring for family members with serious health conditions, bonding with newborns or newly adopted/foster children within 12 months, qualifying military exigencies, caring for injured service members, and other family leave specified in policies.

Requires policies to provide minimum of two weeks of family leave during any 52 consecutive calendar weeks, with specific methods allowed for calculating the benefit period.

Allows policies to include unpaid waiting periods and sets forth permissible limitations and exclusions, including periods when required notice or medical certification is not provided, or when employee is eligible for other benefits.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
