Honors Dr. Michael Douglas as the 2023 Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Superintendent of the Year, making him only the fourth recipient of this prestigious national award.

Blue Ribbon Schools is a nonprofit organization serving schools since 2001 that evaluates schools in nine categories including curriculum, student focus, school culture, active teaching, community relationships, and technology through school visits, classroom observations, and stakeholder focus groups.

As of 2023, 10 schools in the Decatur City Schools system have been recognized as Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, and the system has received 11 total awards including 10 Lighthouse Schools Awards and one Beacon Award.

Dr. Douglas advanced educational opportunities by creating clear feeder patterns, building a new career tech center for workforce development, implementing a strategic plan focused on communications and student success, and establishing effective safety measures.

The Alabama Legislature of both houses concurring dedicates this resolution to Dr. Douglas with appreciation, admiration, and regard.
