AL HB22

Defines the role of assistant principal to include assisting the principal with administration and enforcement of board policy and applicable laws, including student discipline, instruction, management, safety, security, and other assigned duties beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.

Requires each public K-12 school in Alabama to employ at least one assistant principal if funding is available.

Authorizes local superintendents of education to determine how to divide assistant principal duties among multiple assistant principals employed at the same school.

Requires the State Board of Education to mandate that each local board of education develop and broadly disseminate a written student discipline and behavior policy to all teachers, staff, parents, and students.

Establishes October 1, 2024 as the effective date.
