Creates a new Class A misdemeanor criminal penalty for parents or legal guardians who fail to reasonably secure a firearm that results in their minor unlawfully possessing it on public school premises.

Defines "reasonably secure" to include storing a firearm with a trigger lock, in a locked box or gun safe requiring a key, numerical/alphanumerical combination, or fingerprint to open.

Provides exceptions allowing minors to legally possess firearms for hunter education, target shooting, organized competitions, hunting/fishing with valid licenses, on family property, while in armed services/National Guard, or when traveling to these activities.

Makes nonsubstantive, technical revisions to update existing firearm statutes in Section 13A-11-72 to current code style.

Becomes effective October 1, 2024.
