Prohibits possession, sale, and transfer of assault weapons defined as selective-fire firearms, specified semiautomatic rifles, handguns, and shotguns, or any firearm meeting certain criteria like detachable magazines with folding stocks or pistol grips.

Requires registration of assault weapons lawfully possessed before October 1, 2024, with the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency by April 1, 2025, including owner information and fingerprints; registration fee capped at $50.

Establishes criminal penalties: unlawful sale or transfer is a Class B felony (Class A if to person under 18 years old); unlawful possession is a Class C felony; failure to register is a Class C felony.

Exempts law enforcement, Department of Corrections, military, and naval forces; allows registered owners to possess weapons only at residences, businesses, target ranges, licensed shooting clubs, and firearms exhibitions, with restrictions on carrying loaded weapons in vehicles.

Becomes effective October 1, 2024, with registration deadline of April 1, 2025; permits licensed gun dealers to purchase and sell assault weapons outside the state and allows domestic manufacturers to continue operations in compliance with the act.
