Amends Section 13A-8-227, Code of Alabama 1975, to modify restitution requirements for organized retail theft convictions.

Specifically includes the local sheriff's office as an entity entitled to receive restitution from defendants convicted of organized retail theft.

Expands restitution costs to include housing and care expenses of the convicted person, in addition to investigation and prosecution costs.

Restitution remains available upon request of the district attorney and follows procedures in Section 20-2-190(j) or an amount agreed upon by the district attorney.

Takes effect October 1, 2024.
