HB302 Summary

• Proposes a constitutional amendment to vest sixteenth section and indemnity school lands owned by Franklin County School System in Fayette and Walker Counties to the Franklin County Board of Education.

• Grants the Franklin County Board of Education authority to manage, sell, lease, and control the land and any timber, minerals, or other natural resources.

• Directs all proceeds from sale of timber, minerals, natural resources, or lease/sale of the land to be paid to the Franklin County Board of Education General Fund.

• Provides that proceeds from transactions occurring before amendment ratification and held in trust by the State of Alabama shall continue to be held in trust, with any proceeds and interest paid to the Franklin County Board of Education.
